MCPS FY 2012 Operating Budget Information and ACTION
On April 28, the County Council President and the County Executive withdrew their earlier request for a waiver from the State's Maintenance of Effort funding level for FY 2012. This was very sobering news because it indicated a retreat from the level of funding that had been included in the waiver request. By withdrawing their request for an MOE waiver, the County Council has strongly signaled their intent to further decrease funding for our schools both for this coming year as well as in the future.
Without the waiver, the MOE level "resets". That is, future MOE levels will be at the FY 2012 level, which has yet to be determined. Please go out to your communities and share the news that the County Council is signaling their intent to cut further from the school budget. Ask them to immediately email their County Council members and request our county leaders SUPPORT education and not cut their investment in our children's future! (Click here for m ore info on how)

delegates yesterday overwhelmingly voted in favor of resolutions highlighting operating and capital budget priorities for the organization to concentrate on in Fiscal Year 2012 and beyond.
“Even in tight budget times, quality in education is our first priority,” said MCCPTA President Kristin Trible. “Our budget priorities affirm that success for our students should not be negotiated or minimized. An operating budget that ensures appropriate staffing and support is essential for students to reach their full potential. This is also the time to invest in our core facilities and to proceed with capital improvements for critical building additions and modernizations.”

FY 2012 Capital Budget and Amendments to the FY 2011-2016 Capital
Improvements Program.”
Montgomery County Council of Parent-Teacher Associations (MCCPTA) President Kristin Trible said:
“The Recommended Capital Improvements Program (CIP) is consistent with the CIP priorities adopted by MCCPTA. All current additions and modernizations will stay on schedule. We are particularly pleased to see sorely-needed heating and air conditioning improvements increased to $15 million and routine life-cycle asset replacements increased by nearly $1 million. The BMPI, Roof Replacements and School Security stay at the same level as planned in the six-year CIP. MCCPTA and each school cluster will testify before the Board of Education on November 10 and 11 concerning these critical needs."
