The MCCPTA High School PTSA President's Spring Interactive Forum was held on Saturday, April 12th at Walter Johnson High School. Sixteen people from 12 different high schools attended this forum. Dr. Frank Stetson, MCPS Community Superintendent, gave a presentation on School Improvement Plans. We discussed capital and operating budgets; HSA update; foundations; PTSA parent programs and more. A big thank you to all the PTSA presidents and their board who took time to attend and help share best practices and voice concerns on issues that affect all our high schools. We will continue to utilize the HS Presidents listserv between forums to share information and ideas.

Fall Forum
Our MCCPTA High School PTSA President's Fall Forum was held on October 27, 2007. Many PTSA presidents attended this forum and there was a helpful exchange of ideas and best practices on various issues of concern. Over the course of the year, I hope that PTSA President's will use our yahoo group to ask questions and voice concerns as well as find out from other president's what their experiences and best practices have been in dealing with similar issues. Attached you will find electronic copies of handouts given at the forum.

COLLEGE BOARD STANDARDS FOR COLLEGE SUCCESS™
The College Board has published content standards for middle school and high school English Language Arts and Mathematics and Statistics. The College Board Standards for College Success define a developmental progression of rigorous learning objectives for six courses in middle school and high school that will lead all students to being prepared for AP or college-level work. The College Board has published these standards freely to provide a national model of rigorous academic content standards that states, districts, and schools may use to vertically align curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development to AP® and college readiness.
STATUS OF OUT-OF-SCHOOL TIME IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MARYLAND
MCCPTA Student Service Learning (SSL) Subcommittee
Karen Judson, Chair, bszjudson@comcast.net
One of the primary goals of MCCPTA's new SSL Committee is to help make information on SSL more accessible to
students and parents. As a first step, PTSA's have been asked to designate SSL liaisons, parents who will partner with
their school based SSL coordinator to increase the amount of SSL related information (on the requirement, opportunities
to fulfill it, and documentation procedures) going out to their school communities via PTSA meetings and newsletters,
school listservs and websites, etc. For example, beginning with this year's eighth graders, the graduation requirement has
gone from 60 SSL hours to 75 and the new SSL liaisons are now assisting in getting that word out. In addition, the SSL
liaisons can serve as a resource to both the school coordinator and to students and parents, helping to create school-wide
SSL activities, publicize specific SSL accomplishments, and highlight recognition opportunities.
